The President, in his letter to the Prime Minister, expressed his concern about
the state of the foreign trade of the country, as well as about complications
in the conditions of access to goods markets for Ukrainian commodity producers.
The volume of exports of Ukrainian made goods, based on results for the first
10 months of 2009, declined as compared to the same period of the previous year:
to the US – by 90.1 per cent or by USD 1.6 bln; to the Russian Federation – by
53.1 per cent (by USD 7.5 bln); to the EU – by 53.1 per cent (by USD 8.4 bln).
The President has been particularly concerned with numerous complaints of Ukrainian
producers of pipe and tube products in regard to their anxiety of the threat of
being ousted from the Russian market. Victor Yushchenko requires Yuliya Tymoshenko
to put forth the maximum effort for the earliest possible settlement of the above
problem by the Russian side in accordance with the understandings set forth in
the Protocol of the fifth session of the Committee on Economic Cooperation of
the Ukraine - Russia Intergovernmental Commission.
Besides, the head of the state calls on the Government to draw attention to
the issues of real protection of the Ukrainian chemical industry, which is currently
in the difficult financial and economic state and is losing its positions throughout
markets, as well as to undertake some efficient measures to ensure the expansion
of the presence of Ukrainian products of high technology sectors with high added
value on prospective sales markets.
